Joyce started yoga as a child over 50 years ago. The immediate results she experienced in terms of overcoming frail health, asthma and anxiety led her on a life long journey and study of yoga. She studied Psychology at University College and trained as a teacher at London University. She qualified as a yoga teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga in England 30 years ago and as a therapist with S-Vyasa University in India. She has studied different yoga methods and taken every opportunity to meet great yoga teachers and spiritual masters. She has taught in adult education for around 20 years and as a yoga therapist using the Vyasa-method in community mental health centres and in a secure unit. She has also worked in a drug and alcoholic unit. In association with Dr Robin Munro, she has been involved as a yoga therapist with the Yoga Biomedical Trust and Yoga Therapy Centre and in studies relating to diabetes and back pain.
